As homeschoolers, we have to search out and find opportunities for our children to participate in academic activities and events, such as speech contests, science fairs, robotics competitions, etc. The Google Science Fair is an exciting event that can really motivate your child to explore questions in science, find answers, and share them with a global community. The Google Science Fair challenges students aged 13-18 to carry out a scientific investigation into a real-world problem or issue that interests them. The competition asks them to carry the investigation forward through rigorous experimentation, recording and conclusions. Deadline for entries is April 1, 2012.
Students compete with peers in their age group from all over the world to win scholarships, internships and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. There will also be a special Science in Action prize, sponsored by Scientific American. This will reward the project with the highest capacity to make a practical difference to the lives of people in a group or community.
The 2012 Google Science Fair is a unique opportunity for young people to engage with the scientific community at large.
Parent-teachers play a crucial role in helping spread that passion and excitement by encouraging, supporting, and inspiring those budding young scientists on their journey of discovery.
There’s a whole raft of resources to support you in the classroom and help spark your students’ interest. You can even host your own mini science fair!
