Florida Virtual School® Now Offering Outdoor Education Course

Florida Virtual School (FLVS®) is now offering high school students (grades 9-12) the ability to learn about the benefits of viewing and experiencing wildlife and to engage in exercise through
outdoor and extreme sports – relating it all to a healthy lifestyle. Outdoor Education, the new FLVS physical education course, is now available for free to Florida students.

Outdoor Education offers two unique opportunities. Students successfully completing the boating course work will earn a Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card. Upon successfully completing the hunting course work,
students will earn the right to enter a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Field Day, leading to a Florida Hunter Education Certification.

Course highlights include land and water activities, such as extreme sports; state-approved boater safety lessons; state-approved introduction to hunting lessons, guidelines and techniques stressing rules, regulations and ethical behavior; safe fitness practice for a variety of outdoor and extreme sports; and segments on the role of sports on local economies as well as the components of an ecosystem within each student’s community.
By completing the Outdoor Education course, not only will Florida students learn respect for wildlife and its habitat while focusing on safety, but they will also be able to fulfill their virtual learning requirement per Florida’s Digital Learning Act.

Florida Virtual School exists as an educational choice for all Florida students, providing high-quality, online courses to improve student learning. As stipulated by the Florida K-20 Education Code (s.1002.20) (Florida Statutes), parents have the right to choose educational options such as Florida Virtual School for their children. Parents and students having challenges in receiving approval from their zoned school counselor or district to take an FLVS course should visit www.flvs.net/choice or call 1-866-644-8475.
