10:00 am to 4:00 pm

A Family Event for All Ages!

Visitors to Pigeon Key venture back in time to a tiny island that played a tremendous role in the Florida Keys of today. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this five-acre property served as a home base for railroad workers erecting and later operating the final installment of Henry M. Flagler’s Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway: the Old Seven-Mile Bridge.

Continuous ferry and catamaran rides to the island are available, in addition to any visitor wanting to walk or bicycle over the Old Seven Mile Bridge to see an unrivaled view of the island and waters surrounding it. Attendees can also come to the island in a personal boat, limited dock space is available.

Entrance to this family fun event is FREE. If visitors and residents wish to donate $5 – $10 to the Pigeon Key Foundation, that is always most appreciated, but not mandatory.

Take a tour of Pigeon Key’s museum, historic buildings and grounds –  snorkel, bring a chair or blanket for a picnic and relax for the day at this tiny gem in the middle Keys whose impact on the Flagler Over-Sea Railroad was enormous.

Historical reenactment activities with lots of period games and demonstrations for children of all ages are to be the highlight.  Sack races, wheelbarrow races, bob for apples, treasure hunts, participants can even learn kettle cooking, woodworking, boat building or enjoy sing-alongs and square dancing!

A wet lab (touch tank) is to be set up for kids to learn more about the marine life that live in the waters around the island.

Music and entertainment are scheduled all day, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.   Regular fare such as hamburgers and hot dogs, in addition to 1900s-era foodie favorites are to be served.
